As August approaches and the school year is getting closer to starting, events in Ventura County are slowly starting to wind down. That being said, make sure to take advantage of some of the events that are still being offered. The highlight of August will be the Ventura County fair, which we are sure that everyone is eagerly anticipating. Details of the 2016 Ventura County Fair will be given in our next post, but for now, take a quick glimpse of some of the notable events going on in August.
Heritage Square Summer Concert Series
Every Friday in August, there will be a concert in Heritage Square in Oxnard from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Tables in the main plaza can be purchased for $80 each while tables outside of the main plaza can be purchased for $60 each. There are also 80 chairs that will be in the main plaza in front of the stage that can be purchased for $7 each. Tickets for the chairs are limited to two per person and can be purchased starting at 5:00 PM the day of the concert. These tickets are sold on a first come, first serve basis, so make sure to keep this in mind to get you tickets as soon as you can. Below is a list of performers for August.

Fairy Tales in the Park
Every May through September, Gypsies in a Trunk performs free fairy tales at various locations throughout Ventura County. Their goal is to bring free entertainment to children and their families and hopefully to help grow love and appreciation for live theater. Performances are always held outdoors and there may not always be shade available, so attendees are encouraged to plan accordingly. Shows run approximately 45 minutes longs and pets are requested to be left at home. This weekend will feature the group performing “The Snow Queen 2: Trouble in Arrendelle” at the following locations:
Westlake Village: Foxfield Park at 11:30 AM on Aug 6th
Simi Valley: Rancho Simi Community Park Amphitheater at 4:00 PM on Aug 6th
Channel Islands Harbor: Harbor View Park at 2:00 pm on Aug 7th
Camarillo: Valle Lindo Park at 11:30 AM on Aug 13th
Ventura: Barranca Vista Park at 4:00 PM on Aug 13th
The Dinner Detective
Each weekend in August, The Dinner Detective will be happening at the Gardens at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks. The Dinner Detective is a murder mystery show that will be sure to keep everyone entertained. Performing since 2004, The Dinner Detective holds shows in various cities throughout multiples states. Be sure to check out their show information page to see what date and time the show is happening.
Ventura County Fair
The 141st Ventura County Fair will be happening August 3rd – 14th. Held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, the fair is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) annual events in Ventura County. With plenty of exhibitions, food booths, livestock, carnival games, and rides, the Ventura County Fair is sure to have something for everyone. Also included with admission are the free concerts and rodeos held in the Grandstand area. More details and information about the 2016 Ventura County Fair will be provided in our next blog post.
Ventura County Fair Parade
Starting at 10:00 on August 6th, the Ventura County Fair parade will be held in Downtown Ventura. The parade will feature dancers, school groups, clowns, horses, classic cars, high school marching bands, and much more. The event is free, so be sure to bring the whole family.
