Ventura County Events in September

VENTURA MARATHON

The Ventura Marathon and Beach Party will be happening Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th. Saturday will feature bike rides and a kids run while Sunday will feature the 5K, half marathon, and full marathon. The full marathon will be a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon. Details for each individual race are listed below and anyone interested in running can sign up here:

Saturday Line-Up:
100 Mile Bike Ride: Sept 12th starting between 6:30 AM – 7:30 AM
62 Mile Bike Ride: Sept 12th starting between 7:00 AM – 7:30 AM
30 Mile Bike Ride: Sept 12th starting between 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM
15 Mile Bike Ride: Sept 12th starting between 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM
Kids Run: Sept 12th at 11:00 AM

Sunday Line-Up:
Full Marathon: Sept 13th at 6:00 AM
Half Marathon: Sept 13th at 6:30 AM

VENTURA BEACH PARTY

In conjunction with the Ventura Marathon, there will also be a beach party. Located at the beach on the Ventura Promenade, just north of the Ventura Pier, the Ventura Beach Party will offer two days of music, food, and fun. Activities include beach games, a beer garden, free kid activities, local bands playing live music, and local food and art vendors. The beach party runs from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, Sept 12th and from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Sunday, Sept 13th. This event is made possible by Vendurance and Paint Ventura.

VENTURA ART AND STREET PAINTING FESTIVAL

Also happening the weekend of September 12th & 13th will be the Ventura Art & Street Painting Festival at the Ventura Harbor. Open from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM both days, the event will feature 50 street painters decorating the sidewalks along Ventura Harbor and 50 artists displaying and selling their crafts and artwork. Admission to the event is completely free.

Harbor Run 25

Ventura Vintage Rods presents Harbor Run 25, beginning at 8:00 AM on September 13th. The event will feature over 250 classic cars along with food and other vendors. There will be raffle prizes and awards handed out to car show winners starting at 2:30 PM. Harbor Run 25 will be held at Harborview Park in Channel Islands Harbor and admission is free to the public.

Ventura County Coastal Cleanup Day

Ventura Countywide Coalition for Coastal and Inland Waterways will be sponsoring the 31st annual California Coastal Cleanup Day in Ventura on Saturday, Sept 19th. Estimated to draw a crowd of over 60,000 people, volunteers can choose from one of approximately 20 sites in Ventura to help remove debris from the county’s beaches. In order to participate, you must print and sign a waiver and bring it to the cleanup site of your choosing. Waiver forms will also be available on site, but you should print your own to be on the safe side. Be sure to be at your cleanup site by 9:00 AM on the 19th and bring your whole family for a day of helping out our local community.

FAIRY TALES IN THE PARK

Every May through September, Gypsies in a Trunk performs free fairy tales at various locations throughout Ventura County. Their goal is to bring free entertainment to children and their families and hopefully to help grow love and appreciation for live theater. Performances are always held outdoors and there may not always be shade available, so attendees are encouraged to plan accordingly. Shows run approximately 45 minutes longs and pets are requested to be left at home. This weekend will feature the group performing “The Snow Queen: A Frozen Adventure” at the following locations:

Westlake Village: Foxfield Park at 11:30 AM on Sept 5th
Simi Valley: Rancho Simi Community Park Amphitheatre at 4:00 PM on Sept 5th
Channel Islands Harbor: Harbor View Park at 2:00 pm on Sept 6th
Camarillo: Valle Lindo Park at 11:30 AM on Sept 12th
Ventura: Barranca Vista Park at 4:00 PM on Sept 12th

The Dinner Detective

Each weekend in September (except for the weekend of September 12th), The Dinner Detective will be happening at the Pierpont Inn in Ventura. The Dinner Detective is a murder mystery show that will be sure to keep everyone entertained. Performing since 2004, The Dinner Detective holds shows in various cities throughout multiples states. Be sure to check out their show information page to see what date and time the show is happening, as the show could either be on Friday or Saturday depending on the week.

NBVC Point Mugu Air Show 2015

The Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Point Mugu Air Show returns in September 2015. Happening on September 26th -27th, gates open at 8:30 AM for the air show and there is free attendance and parking for all attendees. For those wanting premium seats or other amenities, there are also various tickets for sale. The weekend air show will feature many attractions, but the main event may very well be the world famous Blue Angels. This will be the first air show at Pt. Mugu since 2010, and the first time the Blue Angels have performed at Pt. Mugu since 1999.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula

On September 30th, the Oxnard Performing Arts Center will be hosting Bram Stoker’s Dracula, presented by LA Theatre Works. Ventura County residents are invited to come watch Dr. Van Helsing as he tries to stop Dracula’s reign of terror throughout Victorian London. Tickets range in price from $43 to $53 and the show begins at 8:00 PM. The Oxnard Performing Arts Center is located at 800 Hobson Way in Oxnard.

California Beer Festival

The California Beer Festival returns to Ventura on the weekend of September 18th. Featuring over 140 beers, great food, and live music, the California Beer Festival is a great way to wind down your summer. Ticket prices vary by the day of the event and you can also purchase VIP and specialty tickets. The schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Friday, September 18th: Food and Beer Pairing Competition at 5:30 PM
Saturday, September 19th: Craft Beer Heaven from 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM (VIP session begins at 11:30 AM)
Sunday, September 20th: California Blues and Brews Festival 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
